Streetcar Map

Reader Judy of Amberle.com, who did a great job documenting the YLC’s last public art project, the Festival of Fins (and posts her own pictures of the streetcars), has now taken her expertise with the Google and created a Google map with the locations of the installed Streetcar Named Inspire streetcars.

The map is located here, and we hope it helps everyone in locating the cars. Thanks, Judy, and happy hunting, everyone!

One-A-Day

O.K. folks, here’s the plan. We’re going to post one streetcar a day until we get caught up. It’s the best way to balance being way too busy in our day jobs, etc. and still keep everyone (we hope) interested.

More Streetcars!

The team at the Young Leadership Council has installed several more streetcars and will be installing more this weekend (June 6-8, 2008). For those of you wanting to hunt cars, here are the locations of some of the streetcars that StreetCarArt.com doesn’t have pictures of yet. We’re going to catch up–I promise! Nola’s family obligations and my work schedule have us both on the sidelines photography-wise.

Metamorphisis: Journey of a Lifetime by Kim Griffin and sponsored by Gibbs Construction has been placed at the Riverfront/Aquarium.

The Flavor of New Orleans by Lori Gomez and sponsored by Raising Canes Chicken Fingers LLC, is located in Lafayette Square.

Le vie abondante de Louisiane by Lita Ducote is sponsored by Ericksen Krentel & LaPorte LLP; it has been installed on their office balcony at 4227 Canal St.

You may see others around town, like I said StreetCarArt.com is playing catch-up. Special hanks to Mike Atwater and the other folks at the YLC for keeping us up-to-date.

Update: Readers have sent in some new locations. See the comments below. Thanks, Stacey & Judy!

Reveal Party

The YLC held its Streetcar Named Inspire reveal party tonight at the Hilton. Spirits were high at Spirits, the Hilton’s hip bar. Good eats were served, and we got some pictures of the first cars out on the block.

That’s New Orleans artist Reggie Ford and girlfriend Kerri Jones. Reggie’s streetcar, Reflections of the City, is sponsored by the Hilton and is shown at its future home in the front of Spirits. One of Reggie’s paintings also hangs nearby behind the concierge’s desk in the lobby. Reggie’s work can also be seen at the Dutch Alley Artist’s Co-op, and online at ReggieArt.com.

Also spotted was Lori Gomez’s streetcar, the first placed outdoors, on Fulton Street outside of the new Ruth’s Chris restaurant at the Harrah’s hotel.

Lori’s streetcar celebrates women chefs. Later in the evening it served well as a setting for a second line celebration.

The First Streetcar Has Been Placed!

A Streetcar Named Inspire has placed its first streetcar on the streets! Lori Gomez‘s streetcar is located at the Ruth’s Chris on Fulton Street. YLC will reveal this first completed streetcar at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside’s bar, Spirits, on Thursday, May 8 from 6:00 p.m. -8:00 p.m. Come see it and enjoy free eats from Drago’s Seafood, along with drink specials and door prizes. A percentage of bar sales that night will benefit the YLC. It is certain to impress!

You can also catch a glimpse of the first completed streetcar on Fox 8′s Morning Show this Thursday between 8 and 9 am (channel 8). They will be doing a segment on one of the chefs that is on the Gomez’s streetcar, Brenda Franklin. So check it out and get ready to see other streetcars hitting the streets soon!
