Streetcars A-Comin’

Friday, June 27 is going to be a busy day. Not only is it the day for the YLC’s Streetcar Summer Flip-Flops and Fizz Crawl, but a number of new streetcars will be placed throughout the city. Look for new streetcars (hopefully all our information is correct; we will update as necessary) at: One Shell [...]

Streetcar Mailbox

Reading The Times Picayune‘s Inside Out this Saturday, I feel instantly in love with a mailbox they showcased.  I had to see it for myself.  So after driving around town for two days, I found it!  And here it is.  Isn’t it the best mailbox ever? (Images edited to remove the street address on the box.)

Streetcar Conductors Needed

The Streetcar Named Inspire Project needs volunteers to become “Streetcar Conductors.”   Each conductor will adopt a streetcar to monitor. Conductors are responsible for visiting and inspecting their streetcar twice a month to ensure its welfare. Streetcars in need of special attention will be reported back to project leaders.  This important responsibility will ensure that the streetcars are well maintained [...]

Streetcar Map

Reader Judy of Amberle.com, who did a great job documenting the YLC’s last public art project, the Festival of Fins (and posts her own pictures of the streetcars), has now taken her expertise with the Google and created a Google map with the locations of the installed Streetcar Named Inspire streetcars. The map is located [...]

One-A-Day

O.K. folks, here’s the plan. We’re going to post one streetcar a day until we get caught up. It’s the best way to balance being way too busy in our day jobs, etc. and still keep everyone (we hope) interested.

More Streetcars!

The team at the Young Leadership Council has installed several more streetcars and will be installing more this weekend (June 6-8, 2008). For those of you wanting to hunt cars, here are the locations of some of the streetcars that StreetCarArt.com doesn’t have pictures of yet. We’re going to catch up–I promise! Nola’s family obligations [...]

Reveal Party

The YLC held its Streetcar Named Inspire reveal party tonight at the Hilton. Spirits were high at Spirits, the Hilton’s hip bar. Good eats were served, and we got some pictures of the first cars out on the block. That’s New Orleans artist Reggie Ford and girlfriend Kerri Jones. Reggie’s streetcar, Reflections of the City, [...]
