Meeting the Artists

Your hosts Nola and Pete attended the A Streetcar Named Inspire sponsor party. We were delighted to meet some of the artists and also the Young Leadership Council members who are hard at work putting the project together.

YLC planners created a festive atmosphere in the hallowed marble lobby of the (Capital One) Hibernia building. A circus performer on stilts greeted party goers at the entrance. Inside, hors d’oeuvres, drinks and Jerry Christopher’s jazz combo completed the relaxing mood.

One of the fiberglass blank streetcars was on display. They’re very large canvasses for the artists to work with and they will be impressive once installed about town.

Artists displayed their streetcar sketches around the lobby and were on hand to meet potential sponsors. Sketches were impressive and ran the gamut of New Orleans-inspired themes. Some incorporated home town sports favorites LSU, Tulane and the Saints. Others represented local landmarks like the Audobon Zoo, Cafe du Monde and Jackson Square; more represented food items like po-boys and crawfish, while another looks to incorporate images of local chefs like Emeril, Paul Prudhomme and John Besh into the design.

We’ll be posting sketches shortly.

  1. [...] Pete and I attended the Sponsor Party for YLC’s A Streetcar Named Inspire last night.  We were there in an “official capacity” for our StreetcarArt.com site.  We interviewed artists, previewed the sketches, and meet the YLC folks involved.  To read the official account of the evening, click here.
